Why ChatGPT doesn't recommend your SaaS (and what to fix this week)

Most SaaS brands are invisible in AI search. Here's the data and what to do about it.

By Nahuel Soria

Buyers don't Google "best project management software" anymore. They ask ChatGPT.

And ChatGPT doesn't recommend most SaaS brands, not because the products are bad, but because the content that AI systems use to form recommendations simply doesn't exist for those brands.

What AI search actually looks at

When someone asks an AI assistant for a software recommendation, the model draws on:

  • Public content indexed before its training cutoff
  • Real-time web search results (in the case of Perplexity and Gemini)
  • Third-party review sites, comparison articles, and roundups

Your pricing page and feature list don't appear in these results. Your G2 reviews, your comparison articles, and your "alternatives to X" pages do.

The three gaps we see most often

After auditing hundreds of SaaS brands, these gaps show up in almost every invisible brand:

1. No comparison content. If you haven't published a "Brand A vs Brand B" page for each of your main competitors, you're invisible in the queries buyers use most: "best alternative to X", "X vs Y", "which should I choose".

2. No proof layer. AI systems are trained to recommend brands that have social proof: reviews on G2 or Capterra, mentions in roundups, expert citations. Without these, even a great product gets skipped.

3. No FAQ content. Buyers ask AI assistants questions like "how long does it take to implement X" and "what kind of team is X built for." If you haven't answered these directly on your site, you won't appear.

What to publish this week

If you do nothing else, publish these three pages:

  1. A "Brand vs Competitor" page for your #1 competitor, with a clear recommendation for who each product suits best
  2. A pricing page that includes what's included, what's not, and who it's for
  3. A FAQ page with 10 questions buyers actually ask AI assistants about your category

These three pages alone will put you ahead of most of your competitors.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my SaaS brand not showing up in ChatGPT results?
Usually because the content AI systems rely on does not exist for your brand: no comparison pages against competitors, no third-party reviews on sites like G2, and no FAQ content answering buyer questions. AI assistants recommend brands they can verify from public sources, not the brands with the best product.
How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my brand?
Run a free AI brand check at llmaudit.app/check. It asks the models live, with zero hints, and shows you exactly what they say about your brand and which competitors they recommend instead.
How long does it take to show up in AI search results?
Perplexity and Gemini use real-time web search, so new comparison and FAQ content can influence answers within weeks. Model training data updates more slowly, which is why review sites and third-party mentions matter: they persist across training cycles.
Does AI search visibility actually affect revenue?
Yes. Buyers increasingly start vendor research by asking an AI assistant for a shortlist. If you are not in that shortlist, you lose deals you never knew existed, because the buyer never reaches your site.
